What to expect
FlightFest, a once-in- a-lifetime, international fly past, will take place in the centre of Dublin City on Sunday, 15th September 2013. This will be a truly historic event involving more than 30 aircraft flying at low level following the path of the Liffey right through the centre of Dublin.
FlightFest is expected to be one of the largest National events of ‘The Gathering Ireland 2013’ and is expected that thousands of people from Dublin, all over Ireland and abroad, will line the banks of the River Liffey from Dublin Port up to the Customs House, in the centre of Ireland’s capital city, to experience this unique FlightFest.
Many large commercial aircraft from Ireland and abroad have been invited to participate, such as Boeing’s 737 and Airbus 320, 321, 330 and A340. The Irish Air Corps, the UKs Royal Air Force, a number of helicopters, and some historic vintage aircraft (including the infamous B-17 Sally-B Memphis Bell World War II bomber) are also scheduled to participate.
All major Irish airlines are supporting FlightFest, including Aer Lingus, Ryanair, CityJet, Air Contractors, and Aer Arann (Aer Lingus Regional), with other international airlines being lined-up. The sustained flypast through Dublin city centre will take up two hours to complete and the flights will be sequenced five minutes apart.
When & Where
FlightFest will be wonderful FREE family fun day out for all to enjoy. A large section of the Quays from the 02 (Dublin Port) as far as the Customs House will be pedestrianised and many family attractions and festivities will be available, contributing to a carnival aviation atmosphere that will showcase Irish aviation.
The flypast element of FlightFest will commence in the mid afternoon (time ‘To Be Confirmed’) but the family festival will be running well beforehand, including static displays from the Defence Forces, so please come along early and soak up the atmosphere!
